For 2006, we now have three viable search engines with their own independent algorithms and advertising.  Google still leads in overall volume of searches, followed by Yahoo and MSN. MSN is the new kid on the block and with the strength of Microsoft behind it, will continue to improve and be a contender in search.  Google continues to release products to help diversify from search but their core strength and income still remains in search advertising.  Yahoo continues to have a strong portal with related shopping, news, finance, and groups.

Computerworld:  Google to boost product search in time for holiday season (09.22.2006) Google Inc. plans to extend the product search capabilities on its main Google.com Web search engine in the fourth quarter, in time for the holiday shopping season.
